The plan sets out the council's vision and commitment to advancing equality in °¬²æAƬ.
°¬²æAƬ County Borough Council has published its new Strategic Equality Plan 2024-28, following a consultation with residents, staff, partners and stakeholders. The plan outlines the council's equality objectives and actions for the next four years, as well as how it will monitor and report on its progress.
We recognise as public service providers that we have a key role to play in making a real difference to people’s lives. Therefore, we will continue to strive to meet our priority ‘°¬²æAƬ – a place that is fair, open and welcoming to all by working with and for our communities’ as outlined in Corporate Plan 2022-27 The plan identifies six equality objectives that the council will focus on, which are:
- Equality Objective 1: We will be a fair and equitable organisation.
- Equality Objective 2: We will be a workplace that champions diversity and inclusion.
- Equality Objective 3: We will create a fair and inclusive learning culture for all children and young people with a focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Equality Objective 4: We will promote and support inclusive, safe and cohesive communities.
- Equality Objective 5: We will ensure effective engagement and participation for people with protected characteristics.
- Equality Objective 6: We will strive to reduce inequality caused by poverty.
The plan also sets out the actions that the council will take to achieve these objectives.
Councillor Chris Smith, the Equality Champion of  °¬²æAƬ County Borough Council, said: "We are proud to launch our new Strategic Equality Plan 2024-28, which reflects our vision and commitment to advancing equality and human rights in °¬²æAƬ. We recognise that equality is not only a legal obligation, but also a moral and social responsibility, and we want to ensure that everyone in our county borough has the opportunity to fulfil their potential and enjoy a good quality of life. We look forward to working with our staff, residents, partners and stakeholders to deliver this plan and make °¬²æAƬ a fairer and more inclusive place for all."
