°¬˛ćAƬ Council is continuing the fight against fly-tippers and has recorded a further 20% reduction in incidents between April and September this year (2023) compared with the same period last year. This builds on a 28% reduction seen between the years 2020/21 and 2022/23.
The Council has ramped up its focus on catching fly-tippers over the past two years, through the introduction of a new Enforcement Service Team and a reactive fly-tipping crew within Street Cleansing, together with pro-active CCTV surveillance. All this has meant a more co-ordinated approach across the authority, designed to catch out those who persist with this anti-social offence and hopefully deter others.
Councillor Helen Cunningham, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Place & Environment says:
“This relatively new approach to tackling fly-tipping is clearly beginning to have an impact and proving successful in catching those responsible. We will continue this zero-tolerance approach to help rid our communities of this anti-social behaviour, and to hold to account the minority who show a disregard for the local environment.”
